Internal Communication Is External Communication

Sonoblomo Media · 14 March 2026 · 5 min read

Every employee is a publisher. Organisations that plan for that fact stop being surprised by leaks.

The distinction between internal and external communication survives mostly in org charts. In practice, an internal memo has a distribution list of everyone your staff know, and a screenshot has no embargo.

The response is not secrecy. It is coherence: saying the same thing inside and outside, sequencing so employees hear it first, and giving managers the context to answer the questions that follow.

Change programmes fail on this point more than any other. The strategy is sound, the announcement is polished, and the middle of the organisation is left to improvise an explanation.
